With this character I thought it would be fun to create something that looked almost harmless when suited up, but stripped down looks pretty vicious! He’s a mutant/Raptor soldier created to track and destroy on the chemical fields. ( So to speak! )

Here’s the original sketch. I wanted to show how disturbed Scrooge is at having the spirit sit down
and just stare at him……creepy! By not showing the ghost front-on, I think it’s more effective.

Richard ‘James Johnson’ kindly asked me to contribute some work to his ‘erthchronicles’ website. James has created a very interesting concept and world (check out www.erthchronicles.com and his book ‘The Enemy’s Son’) which I’d recommend. The 1st sketch of Ersula is a bit of a cliche’ but the second one is stronger, more minimalist using Richard’s symbolism better I think. the 3rd sketch is Jeradon who is one of the main players in the story.

These are the first initial scribbles I did for Deva. She liked the blurred head on the right which then became a mood template for the digital paintings.

This fits with my sense of humour. Don’t ask me what it means though! Like ‘Lilly’ it’s an image
that came to me, and drawn straight down. Mickey grinning as he’s operated on is creepy.
I’ve painted this up with one main addition…….wait and see.

I was watching some tennis a couple of days ago and saw this player who had a very strong face. The artificial light emphasized the muscles even more, especially around the mouth. I like doodling like this because I don’t know how the page will go, unlike a planned image.

I’ve only just drawn this one up after shaking off the ring-rust of Xmas. I wanted to get away from the leather clad, tight suited image of a futureristic girl in fantasy work( although nothing wrong with that!). My thinking is that maybe on her world, the alien beings have watched and liked various styles in history of people on earth. And they also have the capability to go through time and study the styles. I’m going to colour a version of this……stay tuned and Happy New Year!

I’m a big fan of boxing. I’ve also seen a few live fights, and after watching these guys at it I’m glad I’m an artist!

Sketch for the concept painting. Sometimes the drawing is sketchy or finished before I scan it in, depending on my mood.

A mixture of dip-pen, brush and smudge, which is a bit tricky and messy when you only have 40 minutes on a pose!

Sandra again. Her hair looks good tied up. you can also see the light and tone on her back better too.

I’ve drawn this model a number of times. She was polish if I remember right and had amazing cheekbones and eyes. She reminded me of one of the actresses from the old classic Hammer horror films!

The bar the ‘Bar Robot’ from my character section goes for a drink. An artist friend of mine suggested I take him from the scene and flesh him out a bit.

This is an my spin on the over-the-shoulder thing that ’stars’ do at a premiers. I painted this up earlier digitally but wasn’t so happy with the feel of it, so I might have a go again sometime.
